Sacred Commerce

This Post is dedicated to Jdimytai Damour, a Long Island Wal-Mart worker who lost his life on Black Friday when he was trampled to death by stampeding shoppers. I extend my deepest gratitude to all my readers for allowing my words to touch your hearts, and for all you do to reach out to others.

To say we have reached an economic turning point is a gross understatement, but since I need a good non-sensational opening sentence for this paragraph, it'll have to do. Jdimytai Damour is certainly not the first victim of Materialism and Greed and most definitely not the last, but his passing is uniquely iconic because of it's timing. For those of you who follow astrology, Pluto moved into the sign of Capricorn during the week of Thanksgiving and Black Friday (aptly named in Jdimytai's case). Pluto is the planet that "represents the Universal force of rebirth and metamorphosis. It causes us to learn to let go of temporal things so that we may come to understand and value what is unchanging and eternal". The essence of the sign of Capricorn is "to provide for those in its care and take on the authority that bestows". The last time Pluto was in Capricorn it coincided with the American and French Revolutions. And just as the American Colonists stood up and proclaimed that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness", it is now time for each citizen of the world to stand up for, and embrace the rebirth of how we provide for ourselves. To proclaim our unalienable Right to pursue happiness using the principles of Sacred Commerce.

Yes, Sacred Commerce. Commerce should be sacred because we are. When one accepts the idea that they themselves are a Sacred being, integral to our world, and that in accordance with principles of Quantum Physics and worldwide Spiritual Teachings we are all one and part of a unified energy field, then it logically follows that all the Kingdoms of the Planet are Sacred. Thus in order to obtain the material items needed for happiness, the systems and spirit with which we obtain goods and services must honor every kingdom it touches: animal, plant, and mineral.

It's no great mystery that you reap what you sow. It's a simple, proven law of Nature, the Universe, Karma or however else you want to put it. Most of us have been unconsciously sowing the seeds of deteriorating health and economic failure. And most of us are unconscious of the direct correlation between health and economics. Instead of citing statistics and studies, I appeal to your reason.

Nothing happens without your mind. You cannot perform any function without it. How you perform depends upon the state of your mind. The state of your mind depends upon all of the electrochemical reactions taking place in your body. The quality of the electrochemical reactions in your body depends upon the quality of the building blocks (food, water, air, light) we use. The quality of the building blocks we use depends upon the commerce systems we use to obtain them.

When the commerce system is driven by how much stuff we can get and its perceived value, instead of what is essential to our well-being, we neglect to address our true needs for happiness.

Deep in the pristine environment of the Amazon Rainforest, there are no degenerative diseases among the tribes. No obesity or heart disease or diabetes or cancer. Wouldn't it be nice to live in an unpolluted paradise without fear of succumbing to a degenerative disease? Isn't it easier (and cheaper) to be in charge of one's own health instead of depending upon inadequate health insurance? In Japan, hospitals are curing people of a wide range of infections and ailments just by giving them properly treated water. Shouldn't this water be available to us in our homes? Therapeutic grade essential lavender oil can heal severe burns. Shouldn't everyone possess this knowledge and know where to obtain this item? The fastest growing film festival today is entirely dedicated to producing inspiring media. Shouldn't it receive the support it needs to become mainstream?

There are a growing number of companies, individuals, partnerships, and media outlets that practice Sacred Commerce. The goods, services, and entertainment they promote are designed to provide you with the building blocks essential to your well-being. They provide you with what you need to thrive as opposed to what you need to survive and compete. They empower you to personally reap the financial harvest from business models that honor the kingdoms of our planet. They are helping people create sustainable health and wealth.

The source to all that is and that can ever be is within you. It is this moment.   If a person says i need this or that to be happy then they are saying happiness is outside of themselves when in reality this is an impossibility because nothing exists outside of oneself.  There is only one consciousness experiencing itself throughout all of creation.  We are one.

I think I agree with every sentiment in here–I think there’s something so powerful about applying a pure intention, and just some level of consciousness–to each transaction, so that we’re aware of where our money comes from and where it’s going, and of the history and interconnections of the material stuff of our lives. I have to agree. A friend of mine once told me that you know something’s wrong when nobody trusts the water, and what do a majority of people prefer? Bottled water, believing it to be cleaner than the tap. (I admit I have a Brita pitcher in the fridge that I filter all my drinking water through.)

The problem with this economy that exists, and the economy we need such as what you describe, is that the existing economy is like a rabid dog with a rabbit. It’s making tons of money in overcharging us for our needs, driving up our intensity of wanting so that we buy necessaries, and keeping humanity in the dark about these simple solutions to healthful sacred living. Try to take that out its mouth and its going to bite back, hard.

I think the first step is to spread illumination itself, the more that the masses wake up, the more the greed-machines out there will be forced to change ways. (The old, every dollar is a vote solution.) You’ve seen the glazed mindless zombie look people get at a black friday sale, its that energy we have to combat. The mindless madness of buy buy buy, more more more, have have have, false-need, false-need, false-need. I think as a species we’ve lost that all a person really needs to live is food, shelter, and companions. Even the more aware of us want our frying pans and laptops. It becomes a matter of, what do you need, and then what do you want in moderation. I do believe that if America had a better sense of moderation, Mr. Damour would be alive with his family today.

Suggestions for spreading this much-needed illuminaton: word of mouth and gathering of lists with websites. Email chains seem to be the fastest way to spread notes among friends. (Think how often you get the same chain letters over and over?) If there is a website to go to that is great, something that organizes this all together. If not then a list of companies and their contact information for blogs, things like that.

Or a website on which individuals could coordinate efforts to create awareness of consumerism, and sacred commerce, in their own neck of the woods? Grass roots, worked for Obama! :)

What if there was a non-profit fund to create awareness? What if you put billboards on the highways? Awareness banners on wal-mart’s website? Awareness bumps on The Shopping Channel, NBC, CBS, ABC? (Hell, even the WB!)

Perhaps something to chew on…
